For an evening dedicated to celebrating excellence in manufacturing, our Executive Director, Wes MacVicar found out that, in the world of local manufacturing, there is more than what meets the eye.
As the MC for this year’s HMA Awards, Wes had backstage access to the all that makes up the awards night and the recipients themselves.
Laden yet strangely invigorated by the stress of the financial crisis, local businesses both small and large primarily chose to focus their energies on product excellence, unabashed pursuance of world markets and the health and development of their employees.
“In the wake of tough times, I was inspired by the scope of community involvement these businesses are involved in and by the honest and noble drive to succeed for business-sake and for the sake of their workers. The award winners were quite visibly honoured to receive the recognition as was their audience eager to do the honouring. On a human level, it would appear that adversity and communal concern has galvanized and bound this sector together and those of us on the outside would do well to keep up the applause”.
