Yes! I’ll Give This

The Holiday season is upon us and the busyness of the season is growing with each day.

As you search for the perfect gift for that person who has everything, we are here to help.

Honour that special someone with a gift in their name from the Foundation for Education’s new Gift Catalogue.
There are so many options to suit each person on your list. You can shop from the comfort of your home and avoid the crowds. All while giving a gift that will change a child’s life.

For that person who is into sports, give them the gift of 1, 2, 3, Go! – the gift of making sure that being part of a sports team is a reality for a young person. For some of our students, the fees to be part of a team and represent their school are more than their families can afford. Help them experience the thrill of the game and learn the lessons that come from being a team player.

Or, for that special someone who is dedicated to the Arts, give them Grow an Artist– the gift of providing a classroom workshop for one student. Introduce a child to an art-based experience they would never be able to have otherwise. You may be opening the door to self-expression, a future in the arts or even a coping strategy when they are faced with complex feelings, anxiety or depression.

There are many options and we are sure there will be something there for that extra special person.

The process is simple:

Please visit our Gift Catalogue and explore each of them. Once you have decided on a gift:

  1. Click on the gift of your choice.
  2. You will be taken to a form to complete for your gift.
  3. To send an eCard and message announcing your gift, choose “In Honour”. You will be taken to the eCard option in the next step. Simply choose an image and include a personal message.
  4. Complete your purchase and relax.

Each gift option you choose completely goes to helping students in Perth and Huron. You will also receive a tax receipt from the Foundation for the full amount you gifted.

Simply go to our Gift Catalogue, fill in the form, send an eCard and you have finished your shopping. All from the comfort of your home.

Above all, you can be merry knowing you’ve made a difference in the life of a child this holiday season.

Working Day and Night for Students’ Futures

A collective effort by the Foundation for Education, Avon Maitland District School Board, and the Huron Perth Catholic District School Board brought two significant career exploration events for students to the Stratford Rotary Complex on Wednesday, November 13th, 2019.

During the day from 10 am – 2 pm, the Interactive Career Day allowed students in Grades 7 to 10 to explore a wide range of career opportunities.

The goal of the event was to have community partners who represent all five pathways – apprenticeship, college, community, university and workplace – connect and network with students through a series of interactive displays and activities.

Post-secondary institutions, the local workforce and community agencies will be there to showcase opportunities available to students during secondary school and beyond.

Students heard about specialty programs such as cooperative education, the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) and Dual Credits through the School-College Work Initiative.

That night from 4 pm – 7 pm, the emphasis focussed on opportunities for women in the non-traditional skilled trades.

The Real Deal on Skilled Trades is an annual event where parents/guardians and their daughters – Grades 8 to 12 – get a better understanding of a potential career in the trades. Attendees have the opportunity to engage, interact and be inspired by female mentors and exhibitors, take in authentic success stories and practical information about non-traditional skilled trades and enjoy a meal in the company of friends and family.

The aim of both events is to provide a comprehensive and lasting learning experience through which students find, explore and anticipate their future careers.

Come Celebrate Our 25th Gala!

children listening to saxophonistFor 25 years the Foundation for Education has held an annual Gala Auction to support thousands of hands-on workshops for the students of Avon Maitland – the public school board for the counties of Perth and Huron.

The Gala Auction is Saturday, November 9 at the Revival House in Stratford, ON.

The event is a lovely adventure: meeting with folks who have supported the event for many years, taking a chance on that one-of-a-kind silent auction item, or out-bidding your table-mates at the LIVE auction – it is a wonderful evening that supports the Foundation’s extensive line-up of ART | LIFE workshops in our schools.

Come join the celebration!

ART | LIFE is a wide variety of arts and life skill workshops that bring unique experiences to local kids. These exceptional hands-on experiences with professionals introduce students to richer ways of living and learning. Funding for these enrichment opportunities comes solely from fundraising efforts.

One such effort is the Gala Auction.

Please see the Gala Auction Facebook Event Page for up-to-date item listings, sponsors, news and more

Order your tickets online or reserve by phone @519-527-0111 ext 239, by email via dana.phillips@ed.amdsb.ca

We’d like to thank the countless businesses throughout Perth and Huron who donate items for the auction.

The evening would not be possible without our sponsors. We’d like to thank them for their tremendous support – many of whom have been champions of our cause for many years.
