Foundation Awards Local Hospital

Wes MacVicar giving an award to Alexandra Marine & General Hospital

From the The Award Presentation:

The Foundation for Education Employer Champion Awards were created to acknowledge and recognize Huron Perth employers who have shown an outstanding commitment to providing meaningful work experiences for high school students in their communities through job shadowing, mentoring, apprenticeship, classroom or worksite visits and cooperative education.

Through funding from the Passport to Prosperity initiative, The Foundation for Education Perth Huron has been involved in connecting employers with educators since 2000.

This is the first-ever award of its kind in the region and we are thankful to the Goderich District & Chamber of Commerce for being open to allowing us to present it here.

For outstanding commitment to providing meaningful work experiences for high school students, this year’s regional recipient is Alexandra Marine & General Hospital (AMGH) in Goderich.

For over 20 years, AMGH has been providing opportunities for co-op students in all areas of the hospital from Maintenance, IT, Clinical Services and Nursing.

“AMGH has done an outstanding job in accommodating our students” states Brian Moody of GDCI’s Co-operative Education Department.

“They have taken up to 6 six students per semester and have scheduled each of them to attend a number of different departments during the semester. Students end up with a very well rounded experience and an improved knowledge of the wide variety of options in the medical field.”

Jennifer Yule, Directors Administrative Assistant for AMGH, is the woman responsible for coordinating this ‘well rounded experience’ for co-op students.

She will accept the honour on behalf of the hospital’s 256 employees.

Other members of the Management Team are also present tonight in support of Jen.

We are also pleased to have the CEO for AMGH, Bill Thibert, here this evening and he wanted us to convey the following:

“As CEO I felt it important to be present to represent our hospital and specifically to support and recognize Jen for her amazing contribution to the very successful co-op education program.

I believe our program continues to be successful in large part due to the energy and enthusiasm that she brings to her role”.

So….to Alexandra Marine & General Hospital

we bestow the Foundation for Education Employer Champion Award

on behalf of Educators, the community and our future workforce…

Thank You and Congratulations!
